Created by a crazed history teacher who finally snapped, the Chasing History Project (CHP) is intended to capture firsthand historical records of the times we live in (aka "primary source documents.") Think of us as a time capsule. We begin with the assumption that our civilization is probably collapsing, and that in future generations, bored high school history students will be forced to study our mistakes. We are no longer sure if we are joking about that.
In early 2021, Chasing History Project founder Ben Hamilton managed to be at the right place at the right time to witness, amoungst other things, a crowd running into the Capitol building on January 6, and he wrote a book about the things he witnessed on that day, filled with interviews he conducted on the ground with people who were just emerging from the Capitol Building, (read all about it on "Sorry Guys, We Stormed the Capitol" available on Amazon and anywhere books are sold.) And we at the Chasing History Project expect to spend many of the first episodes of this podcast discussing "Sorry Guys" and January 6th in general.
But for the very first episode of this podcast, we decided to focus mostly on an interlude chapter in the book called "the Decline and Fall." This chapter focuses on history-teacher-Ben comparing the situation in the United states to other civilizations that collapsed, which makes this chapter a better introduction into the larger Chasing History Project and our particular brand of brutal honesty and dark humor...
